As much love as Apple's Mac OS X Leopard has received in the press and from users, there are still plenty of bugs that need ironing out. Lucky for those users and those not-easily-embarrassed members of the press, Apple seems to be addressing most of those remaining bugs with its 10.5.2 update, which it just seeded to developers. There are apparently 76 fixes listed in the release notes, ranging from fan-faves like MacBook AirPort funkiness to obscure gems like Rosetta PowerPC compatibility memory leaks. This is just the first distribution of the update, and a release to users is rumored to hit mid-January, coinciding with new hardware at Macworld.

Apple released a new wireless mighty mouse almost a week ago. I know this is old news but what with my move to the Untied States and all I haven't been able to post very much or even keep up with the news. As old as this may be it is great news for me because I have been waiting for one. It seems to be the same as the old Mighty Mouse only it is bluetooth making it wireless of course. $69.99 seems a little steep but you should never go against the leader.

Now there is a great program out the for Mac OSX that is basically just a very "minimalistic" web browser that only displays your Google Calendar. Give Your USB Flash Drives Their Own Icon

This is something I recently came across and I thought it would be an interesting tip to share with you, my reader. You can easily assign any picture you want to be the drive icon in your explorer window. All you need to do is save the picture as a .ico file and create a simple autorun. Save the .ico file as something familiar like driveicon.ico and then open up notepad and create a new text file with the contents:

[autorun]
icon=driveicon.ico

and then rename it to "autorun.inf". Make sure both of these files are in the root drive of your USB stick and you should be good to go. As long as autorun is enabled for the drive the new icon should show up.

Autorun.inf files are also helpful if you want to automatically run programs at start up. All you need to do is add a line to the autorun.inf file. We'll assume you want to autolaunch Portable Firefox.

icon=driveicon.ico
start portableapps\portablefirefox.exe

We leave off the drive at the beginning beacause if you use multiple computers each one may assign a different drive letter to your USB drive. We are also assuming that you have Portable Firefox installed in a directory called "portableapps" in the root of your USB drive. You can do this for any program you would like. Just change the location and the program executable and remember to put new entries on the next line in the inf file.

Parallel's Virtualization Software to be Sold in Stores

We've talked about Parallel's Virtualization software before and now it would seem they are making the smart move and offering their software for sale in Apple stores as well as some others. Until July 15th their software for Windows Virtualization on a Mac cost $49.95 but since has gone up to $79.95. Hopefully this move will push the price back down to something a little more reasonable like the $49.95.

Parallels is a piece of software that allows you to install Windows on a Macintosh. Much of the same experience is experienced with Apple's Bootcamp however no reboot is needed. You can fire up Windows in a "window" whilst still using OS X.

I read an interesting article about Youtube today. If you've ever been there than you know how they have tons of copyrighted content up on their site. However as described in this article YouTube is actually protected from prosecution due to the DMCA of 1998. Amazing. All this time I thought the DMCA was useless but now it seems to be doing some good. Under the DMCA online service providers are protected from what it's users do while on their network. YouTube is considered jsut that so when you upload the latest episode of Chappelle's Show Comedy Central can't touch YouTube because they are not responsible for what their users do.

Do you like free music? Sure you do. MosltySavingMoney.com details how to use Windows Media Player to get free music downloads. Basically what they tell you to do is fire up Windows Media Player. Then you should click on "Guide" and that will load WindowsMedia.com. Do a search for a song that you would like to have. Open it up and while the song plays it is actually downloading it to a temp file on your hard drive. In order to retrieve it open up My computer and in the address field type in "C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. Of course replace Your User Name with your user name. Find the song and then right click and copy. Go to another folder you'd like to keep your music in and paste it into that folder. This is nothing new but I thank them for bringing it back out. I had almost forgotten about getting files out of the temporary internet cache. This is a great way to get free MP3's and free music downloads from the internet but as usual if you are getting something you didn't pay for there may be legal ramifications. Of course if it is sitting on your hard drive and Microsoft gave it to you what are you suppose to do but keep it and put it on your MP3 player.

Computer enables quadriplegic to move simple devices

Here's a story about hooking a man's brain up to a computer and then he controls the cursor, with his brain. He then is able to control mechanical devices.

Within little or no learning time, the patient began to be able to move a computer cursor via the device to open simulated e-mail, draw circular shapes and play simple video games. He also was able to open and close a prosthetic hand and use a robotic limb to grasp and move objects, the researchers said.

Mr. T to get his own TV show

Mr. T is set to get his own TV Show this October called "I pity the fool". From the AP:

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Mr. T wore bling before we knew what bling was. Now, the bling's gone and he's wearing a sharp suit.

Mr. T says seeing the destruction of Hurricane Katrina changed him. He says "as a spiritual man," he "felt it would be a sin" against God to wear all that gold while so many people are less fortunate.

Mr. T will be using his skills as a motivational speaker to help others on his new advice show called "I Pity the Fool." It premieres October Eleventh on TV Land. Oh, and by the way, the bling may be gone, but the mohawk stays. He's just trimmed it a little.

Jimtech to Last.fm, "Looking good!"

Last.FM has relaunched with a brand spanking new look. Those of us that pay for Last.FM have seen the dashboard at beta.last.fm but now they've dropped the beta and the new look is for everybody to see. It's actually quite slick and a welcome addition to this site.

Last.FM is a web 2.0 radio website, but it is so much more than that. Create your own custom stations based on artist or styles of music you like. As songs play you can "Favorite" them or "Ban" them or just skip them. There is a recommended music station that is based off music you've listened too and music you say you like. You can submit music you listen to in you iTunes library and off your iPod with various plugins for the program. There is just so much you can do and if you're a music lover and not using this service you are missing out.

Now that the site has a facelift there is no time like the present to go and check it out. Signup is free but they would love it if you would donate $3 a month to get extra services that are well worth it. The free account is more than enough for most users though so don't delay and go create your own Last.FM account.

Ripping DVD's on a Macintosh to your iPod

Today I got a little bit froggy and decided I wanted to convert a DVD I own to iPod format. This DVD was Failure To Launch. It weighs in at 1 Hour, 34 Minutes, and 14 seconds. Now I'm not going to step you through everything I did to get up and running in various ways to get this to rip but I will tell you enough.

I've used Handbrake quite a bit to rip movies not just to iPod format but to XviD as well. I however read somewhere that Roxio Popcorn 2 did a great job of converting to iPod format. So I decided I'd try them both out. Timing how long it takes as I go using Chimoo Timer, a free countdown/up timer for Mac. While the ripping was going on I continued to use my white 2.0 Ghz MacBook with a superdrive and 2GB of ram to surf the internet, check my email with Mail.app, and listen to my Last.FM radio.

I decided to start with Popcorn since I had not used it before. It's a pretty straight forward program however right off the bat I had a problem. It's not free. I'm a fan of free software but I also know you get what you pay for. So $50 later I own Popcorn. After I get it installed I have another problem. It says my DVD is protected and can not be ripped by their program. That's kind of a bummer but luckily I have a program called MacTheRipper that will rip the DVD to my hard drive. It's hard to find now a days for download (something about breaking copy protection being illegal), but if you look in the usual places I'm sure you can find it. Ok, so I got my DVD ripped after about 30 minutes (the whole DVD because MTR wouldn't rip just the main feature) and I'm ready to start converting. I just drag and drop the VideoTS folder into Popcorn and set it for Video iPod and Standard quality and away it goes. It really was as easy as it sounds, signs of a quality Mac program. It doesn't show what percentage complete it is, however it does have a blue bar that indicates how far you've gone. By looking at it you can tell about how far you've gotten, 25%, 50%, etc... Since I didn't see a percentage I tried to go into the preferences to see if maybe I could adjust something but no dice. Everything is grayed out while a conversion is in progress.

It took about 1 hour and 35 minutes to rip and convert the DVD and then I had a 727.5 MB .m4v file sitting on my desktop. I could have chosen to automatically import it into iTunes however I manage my library on a computer with a bigger hard drive. Which is why I'm going to have to research managing an iPod without iTunes on a Mac while I convert with Handbrake. The quality on my Macbook isn't too impressive but then again I will be watching it on an iPod screen. The problem is I could have converted it to XviD and it would have fit on a 700MB CD and I could play it full screen and it would look great. The quality I'm getting with this file is quality I would expect from a 200-300 MB file. Like I said it will probably look fine on an iPod but the file size is unacceptable. Let's see what Handbrake does for us.

Now while I was encoding with Popcorn I decided to browse Handbrakes website a bit. I found that they released a version of Handbrake called Instant Handbrake. It's a free 2.8 MB download and is a stripped down version of Handbrake that is solely for converting to iPod or PSP formats. It doesn't have all the functionality of it's older brother or Popcorn but since all I want to do is convert a movie to play on my iPod I decided to give it a go.

I fire up Instant Handbrake and it gives me two options. Insert a DVD or select a VideoTS folder. I decide to pop the DVD back in and let it rip as it converts. Getting going with Handbrake was a lot easier than with Popcorn 2 and it was really easy with Popcorn. Within under a minute I was converting with Instant Handbrake. Right away it estimates it's going to take about 55 minutes to convert. We shall see since at the beginning it can probably rip faster since it is mainly just credits at the start of movies. When it gets into more live action the conversion will slow down a bit. It actually took about an hour an 20 minutes. 15 minutes faster than Popcorn did it in. The finished file came out at 512 MB's, much lower than what Popcorn did it in. It also looks beautiful, on my MacBook screen and on the iPod.

I downloaded a trial copy of ipod.itunes to transfer the movies to my iPod. First I had to copy them into iTunes and then hook up my iPod so I could start using the program. It went fairly smoothly. If you can follow directions you can get it copied over. I have to say, I thought the Popcorn version would look fine on my iPod screen but it was absolutely horrible. There were artifacts all over the place in just the first few minutes. At one point the video completely stopped while the audio kept going and then the video came back in a few seconds later. At least the Audio and Video were still in sync. Speaking of which, I know there are problems with Audio/Video syncing when you convert videos for the iPod so i thought I'd make sure it is fine. I fast forward to the end of the movie and it is in sync. That is good but with the file size being so big and the video looking the way it does I'd say with the default settings in Popcorn that it is junk. Handbrakes encode looks great on the iPod and the audio/video sync is spot on as well.

The final verdict? I'm sure you can tell from the way I've written this, Popcorn did a crappy job. Especially considering I had to use two different programs to get the DVD converted and that it cost me money. Instant Handbrake is by far the winner. A 2.8 MB download, faster conversion time, smaller file, and better looking video makes it a winner all around. So go and download Instant Handbrake.

Gracenote to Sell Lyrics on iTunes

Gas Thieves Also Steal Your License Plate

Snopes has an article today about thieves stealing peoples license plates so when they "pump and run" they won't get caught but instead you will. they are reporting that this is "True" and in fact happening. A version of the email you may have seen about it looks something like this:

Just a warning...

A woman said her son found his license plate missing so he called the police to file a report. They told him people were stealing the plates to get free gas. Given the rise in gas prices, people have taken to stealing license plates, putting them on their car, then getting gas and running. The gas station will have "your" license plate # and you could be in trouble for "pump and run." Check your car periodically to be sure you still have a plate. If you should find it missing, file a report immediately!!!

A Few Items From Amazon's Friday Sale

They are selling a Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 12-Quart Stockpot with Lid for $40 down from $168, which seems like a pretty good price. A pot of this size can be used for a lot of different things. I was looking at them before and they seemed kind of outrageous. Microsoft Giving away Virtual PC 2004

Microsoft is now giving away their Virtual PC 2004 software. Maybe since VMWare is giving away their virtualization software Microsoft decided to follow suite. Virtual PC 2004 allows you to run many different operating systems at once on top of your host OS. If you want the free version you'll be looking at using Windows 2000/XP as that is the only version that they are giving away. Microsoft has also announced that Virtual PC 2007 is in the works but there are not many details about it however we do know that Vista will be supported as a host and a guest OS. So go and get your free copy of Virtual PC 2004 for Windows now.

Apple has done away with the $899 iMac as reported by AppleInsider. You may remember that just last week Apple released the new iMac and it was supposed to be a replacement for the eMac. AppleInsider posts some speculation on why that is including that some think it was cutting into sales of the $400 more expensive iMac so much that Apple couldn't stand it.

The $899 iMac is still available. The only thing is only institutions can buy them. You and I can not.

OSX Dashboard Phones Home part III

Mac Geekery has posted stating that the 10.4.7 dashboard doesn't really phone home. It does connect to Apple's site but it doesn't send any personal data. I already posted that however what they do find is that you send more personal data and information whenever you connect to Apple's website and other sites than you do when Dashboard checks your widgets. Firefox 2.0 Beta 1 Released

The First beta version of Firefox 2.0 was released today. Firefox has been around for quite awhile and I've been a regular user of it since I first installed it back when it was called Firebird. Firebird however is the name of some free database software so that of course would not do. Just like their first name for the browser, Phoenix, had to be changed because of the BIOS manufacturer of the same name. I do not rely on Firefox on my Mac. I only use it on every PC I use usually in a portable version on my USB Stick.

The new version sports a spell checker as well as a phishing filter. That should help out with blog posts and the like so now we won't see so many misspelled words. I've had some problems downloading it, maybe it's just me but I bet their servers are a bit overloaded. You're best bet is to grab it from the FTP server with something like Transmit or Filezilla.

iUseThis, a pretty interesting website.

There is a new website out there called iUseThis. I've signed up and have been using it a bit. I'm not sure if it is for Mac OSX only because when I navigate to it from my MacBook it appears to autodetect what OS I'm using and then redirect me to OSX.iUseThis.com. The site follows in the theme of the social bookmarking, tagging, sharing, et cetera theme of so many other popular sites in that it lets you post a piece of software that you use and like and then other people can vote by clicking on "I Use This". The more votes it gets the higher the software goes on the list. Newly submitted apps are on the frontpage and there is a sidebar for the top apps. Of course they have an RSS feed so you can see all the new apps people are using. In order to tell the site you are using a particular app you must sign up however the process is quite painless. So stop reading this and go check out iUseThis.com!

Is that an Apple Logo on a PS3 site?

What is going on with Apple and Sony? Why was there a Apple Logo on a site for the upcoming PlayStation 3 (PS3)? Sony's site has a flash animation that shows a PS3. A few days ago the animation had a small blip of a Apple logo that showed up and went away. The Unofficial Apple Weblog has a screen grab of this. You can also check out the original flash intro grabbed from Sony's website.

So what are Apple and Sony planning? Is this just a hoax?

Not so much a hoax as it is Sony being cheap. If you use a trial version of Apple's Shake it will give you that exact effect. Since it has now been fixed I wonder if they edited out somehow which I'm sure must be against Apple's TOS or did they spend the $500 to buy the software? Answers I'm sure we'll never have.

Apple responds to Dashboard privacy concerns

You may recall not too long ago I posted about Apple's Macintosh OS X 10.4.7 phoning home to check for the latest updates. Apple has since responded to everyone freaking out. CNet has an article that quotes them as saying:

"Apple takes protecting user privacy very seriously. The Dashboard Advisory feature is a security tool that ensures that the correct version of a widget has been downloaded from a third-party site and no personal information is transmitted back to Apple"

So, yeah, Apple is just looking out for your best interests.

iPod to get speech capability

The Scotsman is reporting that some exciting new features are coming to the iPod. They are saying that the new iPod will have speech recognition so you will be able to speak a name of an artist, song title, and the like to the iPod and it will play them for you. They also say:

The new iPod will tell you what it is about to play, removing the need for users to look at the screen while selecting music, and making the device safer and easier to use while driving, cycling or in badly-lit locations.

I'm not so sure I want the iPod talking to me everytime a new song comes on. Not that it matters anyway, I'm not so sure I actually believe this story. They say their source is a patent filed by Apple Computer that states:

"A user will have difficulty navigating the interface in 'eyes-busy' situations.

"Such activities include, for example, driving an automobile, exercising and crossing the street."

Only time will tell I guess.

Snopes.com has posted their "Jest in Time II". Snopes is a website that sets out to debunk internet rumors. The seemingly junk mail you get from friends and family that talk about how Castro almost played for the Yankees and other assorted goodies like that they take and research. When they find the answer they post whether or not it is a true story. Some people send in stories that are actually jokes but these people are too gullible to see that. MTV's The State

This will be a recurring post. As in this post will be updated frequently. You may want to bookmark it.

The State was a half hour long sketch comedy television show, broadcast on MTV from 1993 to 1995. The show combined kooky characters and bizarre scenarios to present sketches that won the favor of its target twenty-something audience. The cast consisted of 11 twenty-something comedians who created, acted, wrote, directed, and edited the show. Several memorable characters were created for the show, and for a short time their catch-phrases entered into popular lingo (see below). Often, the cast would appear as themselves and address the audience to promote fake "contests" or to deliver mock public service announcements. Much like Monty Python, The State's sketches were sometimes "linked" to each other in some way. A punchline or image that ended one sketch often provided a lead-in to the next. As with many MTV shows, each episode featured clips of popular alternative music of the time, used as background music to various sketches.

How to Avoid being Arrested by Cops

There is a video up on Google from the Flex Your Rights Foundation about how not to get arrested. It's 45 minutes long, which IS long. However, I ended up watching the whole thing. It is also branded by the ACLU or American Civil Liberties League. I don't agree with a lot of their politics but if you randomly have drugs in your car or throw parties hosting drugs or just brake the law randomly with something you could normally hide from your parents you should probably watch this. What would be easier is to not do anything illegal. However it is nice to remember that we have rights and we should stand by them. My favorite? I have the right not to self incriminate. So when a cop asks if I know why he pulled me over instead of saying "Because I was speeding?" I should just wait for him to tell me. As soon as I tell him I was speeding I give up the right to not self incriminate.

OS X Phones Home; Apple is spying on you

The new OS X update 10.4.7 has been found to phone home. It's nothing like the recent news about Windows XP that phones home all the time to find out whether or not your copy of Windows XP is valid, even if it has already determined that it is valid. With Apple's OS X update it's not so bad, whenever you launch the OS X Dashboard it checks to see if you have the most recent version of your installed widgets. I would call it a feature. Other people would call it spyware. In a way I agree that they should have asked me if I'd like to enable this new feature available in 10.4.7. The next time I launch OS X's Dashboard a window could have popped up to say "OS X can check to make sure you have the most up to date versions of your widgets. Would you like to automatically connect to the internet periodically to check?" Now would that be so hard?

MacOSXHints has posted a workaround to make it not connect to the internet if you are that much against it. It is a little involved so if you are not comfortable with the command line I'd suggest waiting for the enevitable update that will let you choose wheter or not to connect. MacOSXHints says to do this:

Login with an administrative account and open Terminal, then execute the following command:
$ sudo vi /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist
When asked for a password, retype your own password to verify that it's still you and not someone else. Next type an i to enter input mode, and add the following two lines below the line that reads <dict>:
        <key>Disabled</key>
        <true/>
Press Escape to leave the edit mode and type :wq, followed by Enter, to save the file and quite the editor. The file is saved and mach_init.d won't start this process anymore. Now type the following command:
$ sudo vi 
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dashboard.advisory.fetch.plist
and enter input mode once again by pressing i, and after the line that reads <dict>, we also add the lines:
        <key>Disabled</key>
        <true/>
Leave the input mode and save the file as before. Now restart your computer, and this process won't start automatically.

Microsoft to Give Away Free Music You Already Bought from iTunes

Have you heard about the supposed new MP3 player from Microsoft? The MP3 player that is going to be the iPod killer? Gizmodo is posting news that Microsoft is planning on giving away music that you already bought from iTunes to try and encourage you to buy their Microsoft branded MP3 player. That is great news if you have been looking for an alternative to the iPod but have been using one for a long time. I'm sure there are people out there that are ready to give up on the iPod but I just don't see why. The only real complaint I've actually heard is that it gets scratched easily. However if you care about your iPod getting scratched you could just buy an invisible shield for it. I would also recommend a Foofpod to carry it around. Both great products that I myself use.

The strange news about this is if Microsoft did scour your iTunes music to see which songs you have bought and then gave them to you they would still be obligated to pay a licensing fee. This leads me to believe that if they did do this with your iTunes purchased music that they would have to put a price limit on it. Hopefully the iPod will be wireless by the time Microsoft comes out with their wireless MP3 player.

Apple Introduces $899 iMac

Apple has released a $899 iMac only for educators and students. The new iMac sports a 1.83Ghz Intel core duo, and it has built in iSight much like all the other new computers Apple is releasing. It also comes with Tiger and iLife '06. According to the Apple Store Website the new iMac is shipping within 24 hours. The downside? Integrated graphics as well as no superdrive make me sad. Then I look at the price again... $899! Seriously, that is pretty sweet.

Like it or Love it, AllofMP3.com under more fire

The UK based Music label trade association BPI has issued proceedings on June 29 against the operator of AllofMP3.com. A UK High Court gave them permission to serve those proceedings in Russia. That means that even though AllofMP3 is based in russia the case against them can be heard in a UK court. This doesn't sound like good news for the folks over at AllofMP3.com. We'll see how this unfolds.

Looking to buy a new MacBook? You have a few more options.

For those of you still thinking about buying a new MacBook a few new options have opened up for you.
Apple retailers are now selling two more models. A white MacBook with 1 GB of ram as well as an 80 GB hard drive for $1449. That's $150 more than the midrange model now for upgraded 512MB ram and 20 more GB of HDD space.
They are also selling a black model named the "Macbook Ultimate" which will have 2 512MB sticks of RAM for a total of 1GB. This is going to run you $1599, $100 more than the $1499 black MacBook they started with.
Personally I'd stick with doing those upgrades myself, but that's just one mans opinion.

Codeweavers Announces They Are Shipping CrossOver Mac Soon

Codeweavers has announced that they are going to be shipping CrossOver Mac by late July or early August. What crossover allows for is running Windows applications under OS X without needing to install Windows. It will only work with the new Intel based Macs and will only support a limited amount of software. The direction this is headed is still pretty exciting. Has the NSA Been Watching You Surf

Wired has an article about how to know if the NSA is secretly spying on you. Basically what it comes down to is this. On your windows box goto Start/Run and type in "CMD" without the quotes. Then run the command "tracert nsa.gov", again without the quotes. If you see sffca.ip.att.net then your packets are being snooped upon. They also mention that if you have any traffic from att.net then there is a good chance you are being watched as well. If you are runnning Mac OSX open up Netwrok Utility and do a Trace Route to nsa.gov. Basically a Trace Route does exactly what it sounds like. It traces the route between your computer to any address on the internet and will show you where you traffic is funneling through along the way. Anywhere along there people can see what you are doing. So be wary of that next time you are doing something on the internet you wouldn't want other people to know about. If you are on linux you already know the proper commands to check ;)

Here is a story about a nigerian scammer that got scammed. Shiver Metimbers runs a wesite called 419eater.com which is currently down at the time of this posting. 419 is another common named used to refer to the oh so familiar Nigerian scams you've seen in your email. Read the full story here. Also, just for the record, never give out your bank account details to anyone. Especially not someone requesting they be able to deposit large sums of money into your account. All they are going to do is siphon large sums of money out of your account. It's nice to hear about someone sticking it to these ruthless scammers.

This sounds like a great piece of software. I can't actually try it yet as I don't ahve my phone, but basically you install this on your cell phone and then enter in the barcode number for something you are interested in. It then comes back and tells you the best online prices and also gives you reviews. Sure I suppose if you could get on the internet with your mobile device you could just navigate to Google and put in the barcode but isn't this so much more fun?

Target Now Selling Pink iPods

OS X Home Folder for 'My Documents' Under Parallels and Windows

Techpedia has an article about how to set up your OS X home folder as your My Documents folder in Windows using Parallels and Bonjour. I'm not sure I would like to do this myself since I would not want to corrupt any of my files in OS X with a virus. Even though OS X may be exempt from viruses getting one in windows under Parallels whilst using Windows could still jack up them files and render them useless.

Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update Not Complete?

AppleInsider is reporting that the recently released 10.4.7 update for Macintosh OS X was not complete. An email from Apple states:

"The install package that upgrades a Mac OS X v10.4.6 (Intel) system is being revised. The revision is to provide several files related to OpenGL performance that were missing.

Only the package that upgrades a Mac OS X v10.4.6 (Intel) system to Mac OS X v10.4.7 (Intel) is being changed, Apple said. All other Mac OS X v10.4.7 install packages remain unchanged.

So far, the revised updater has not appeared on Apple's Web site or through Software Update. The company said the new package will bear the name MacOSXUpd10.4.7Intel.dmg and carry an SHA1 checksum of "10aa57dfccd63accb0939a894cea202a8910fb45."

Hopefully we all will not have to download another 100+ MB update and they will release only the files that were left out. Supposedly this does not affect any security fixes.

I've been reading up a lot on how to make money with Google AdSense. One of the things I have come across over and over is something that kind of surprised me. Are you ready for a free tip? You should make your ads blend in with your website as much as possible. Some might think you should make the ads stand out to make people click on them, however scientific* studies have shown that with adsense you get more click throughs if the ad blends with your content. Recently I purchased a MacBook to replace my 15" Powerbook. After a few days of using it I have found a problem.

It seems the frame around my screen comes off way too easy.

I first noticed that on the left hand bottom side that it seems to not be attached. I put my fingernail in there and started to move it up. When I started hearing clicking noises I got scared. Then I realized it was snapping out of place. I've heard of problems that range from overheating, whining, audio out sucks, and now this. I'm sure all the other ones are made this way but do not go and jack up your new Mac.

Just make sure you shrink prices at the same time. I'm all for smaller portion sizes though. I'm not so sure adding healthier items would do much. In the end if someone wants to sit down and eat a whole pizza that is what they are going to do.

How to hook up a XboX or Playstation or other similar wired ethernet device to a DWL-G710 Wireless Range Extender. You don't. After spending 30 minutes on hold with Belkin tech support I learned that there is no way to do this. If anyone knows otherwise let me know,but the DWL-G710 is going back to the store within 30 days ;)

Basically now whenever I post I have to do one of those word verification things that arn't really words. They put up some picture of letters and you have to type them into a block. The problem is the letters look all deformed so it's hard to tell what they are. Oh well, I guess you can't beat the price.

This guy has a few good things to say about his new Powerbook and I feel the same way. If it weren't for that stupid stuck pixel on my display I'd be estatic about how great it is. At least I barely notice anymore after a weeks worth of use. Other than that I absolutely love my new Powerbook! Now I just need to get rid of the rest of my windows machines. :)
